The event was a part of Bulgaria Boat Show 2008, the greatest in water yacht show in Bulgaria, held between 5 and 8 June 2008 at Sea station – city of Varna.
Key figures related strategically to the development of yacht business in Bulgaria took part in the conference. Legal changes have been discussed in favour of yacht tourism and the whole business sector, custom and border regulation, infrastructure development.
For the year 2007 as compared to the year 2006, 36% growth of yacht market has been noted. More than 100 yachts at the value of around 60 mil Euros have been sold in 2007. Prognoses point to an expectation for doubling the turnover for the sector till the end of 2008. Above 120 mil Euros investments are expected for constructing more than 10 public-private yacht ports in Bulgaria.
Yacht business is one of the quickly growing economic sectors on world scale. According to Economist magazine data, annual income from yacht tourism in the USA amount to 37,3 milliards dollars, European market generates 47 milliards dollars, Turkish economy earns 2,5 milliard dollars, Croatia – which is a traditional yacht destination gets 4.5% of its tourist income from yacht tourism /around 25 000 people annually/ in comparison to 3.1% generated from boat cruises /around 100 000 people annually.
